Revue Regret is a circus company, invented out of a show, born out of an attempt at a show, born out of an act, born out of an idea in 2016.

The idea that sowed the seed was whether or not it was possible to create a sword swallowing act that didn't rely on impressing the audience with the skill, but rather using such a visceral skill to further the content of the act. The idea led to the creation of a 15 minute act performed by Lisa Chudalla and Jakob Jacobsson using sword swallowing to enhance and embody a reading of Charles Bukowski's ´Bluebird`.

A one off performance in the Performance Bar in Rotterdam became a performance touring various bars, poetry evenings, 3 different circus festivals and small theaters.

That act ‘How to Kill a Bluebird’ then grew to accommodate research in the aerial rope on the use of space and light, live music and a taxidermy fox, and this became the attempted show The Last Straw.

The last straw was a 30 minute-long contemporary circus piece that was created without funding, residencies or support and was a bold attempt at making something out of nothing.

With Dear Doubts we picked up atmosphere, emotional content and the visual language and dove even deeper into the theme ‘regret’ and self reflection.
